Features for Managing Your Hivemapper Fleet

If you’ve been looking into deploying Hivemapper Dashcams across your fleet of vehicles, there are two important features that you’ll want to take advantage of: device locking and token splitting. While these aren’t the only features that Hivemapper will be releasing to empower fleet operators, they are the most critical.

Device Locking

When you are entrusting one of your fleet drivers with a Hivemapper Dashcam, you’ll want certainty that you’ll have complete control over which wallets are able to connect to that device. A fleet operator will be able to connect several wallets to each device in their fleet. This ensures that whether your drivers are in the same vehicle each day, or if they swap from day to day, you’ll be covered.

The access list resides within the Hivemapper Dashcam itself, stored securely in a separate chip. This was chosen for Hivemapper’s commitment to the highest privacy and security. By securing the access list within the device rather than on the blockchain (or worse yet, a centralized service), no one except the fleet operator is able to determine which accounts own, have access to, or are in control of which devices.

To add a Hivemapper Dashcam to your fleet, it’s as simple as pairing your mobile device to the dashcam, navigating to the Settings tab and selecting Fleets. From there, you’ll be able to toggle the lock on or off as you wish, setting the list of accounts within your fleet to the device’s access list. In the future, you’ll be able to select a subset of drivers from your fleet should you wish to have more granular control over this feature.

When first initializing your Hivemapper Dashcam, it will be unlocked by default. Through the Open Dashcam API (ODC-API), the fleet operator’s mobile device can interface with this access list by mutating it or checking for membership. The mobile app can then fetch the fleet’s wallets from the Hivemapper API and pass these inputs to commands via the ODC-API.

Once a dashcam has previously been locked, if the user connecting to it is not the fleet operator, they are not able to update the access list. The Hivemapper Dashcam reliably tracks who the authorized fleet operator is. In the future, the software will be able to support multiple fleet operators, but for the initial release, this will be limited to one account. The fleet operator is able to clear the access list and “unlock” the device if desired.

When connecting to a Hivemapper Dashcam to begin mapping a drive, the contributor app will pass the user’s wallet address to the ODC-API, which will authorize access to data on the device. Should the address not be found on that dashcam’s access list, the app will alert the user that the device is locked and that they do not have access to it.

HONEY Rewards — Token Splitting

As drivers in your fleet upload 4K street-level imagery in the Hivemapper mobile app, you’ll start to receive HONEY token rewards for those contributions to the map. To help align incentives, fleet operators will often choose to split these rewards between themselves (for providing the hardware) and the drivers (for driving the vehicle). In order to remove accounting headaches, complicated tax implications, and automate these payments, Hivemapper has placed token splitting at the blockchain layer.

When registering a new device to your fleet, you’ll be able to choose a split between 0% and 100% which you will retain, with the remainder going to the account that was operating the device. This split is configurable at any time, and the split can be verified by both the driver and fleet operator.

As fleet operator, you’ll have a complete overview of each driver’s earnings and location data so that you can best manage your fleet. This allows you to understand what your drivers are doing and how it impacts their earnings. Location data is available to fleet operators anytime via a free API.

Fleet operators can request a time range for a fleet member and be returned a list of H3 L12-quantized positions and timestamps corresponding to that driver’s coverage. Additional data around freshness, quality, and earnings will also be provided.
